Opening the Door to Membership for More New Yorkers
06/10/2026
More communities can now experience GPO
Big things are happening at GPO Federal Credit Union. With the approval of our expanded Community Charter, more individuals, families, and businesses across Central and Northern New York may now qualify for membership.
For current members, nothing is changing about the service, support, and commitment you already know from GPO. What is changing is the opportunity for more people throughout the region to experience it alongside you.
This expansion allows GPO to serve individuals and businesses who live, work, worship, attend school, or regularly conduct business in Hamilton, Herkimer, Oneida, Madison, Otsego, Chenango, Onondaga, Lewis, and Essex Counties.
Whether it’s a family member who recently moved, a small business owner looking for a financial partner, or someone searching for more personalized banking support, this expansion opens the door for more communities to join GPO.
Why this expansion matters
Community growth has always been about more than adding locations or increasing reach. It’s about strengthening relationships, improving access to financial services, and continuing to invest in the people and places we serve every day.
“Growth has never been about expanding for the sake of expansion,” said Nick Mayhew, CEO of GPO. “It’s about creating more opportunities for people to access trusted financial services and bringing the credit union difference to more communities.”
As GPO continues to grow, our commitment remains the same: providing local service, helpful financial solutions, financial wellness resources, and personalized support designed around the needs of our members.
What this means for current members
One of the biggest questions surrounding the expansion has been whether it impacts existing members. The answer is simple: no.
Current members and their families will continue to enjoy the same products, services, digital banking tools, and member experience they already know from GPO. Existing family membership eligibility also remains unchanged.
This update only expands who may now qualify for membership moving forward.
More access. Same commitment.
While membership eligibility is expanding, GPO’s focus remains centered on maintaining strong relationships and delivering the personalized experience members expect.
Newly eligible members may now have access to:
- Competitive loan options
- Low fixed-rate credit card solutions
- Mobile and online banking convenience
- A large surcharge-free ATM network
- Financial wellness tools and resources
- Personalized local service
While more communities are now eligible for membership, that does not mean a new branch will open in every county. Members can conveniently access GPO through our existing branches, digital banking tools, ATMs, and other banking services, while we continue to evaluate future growth opportunities, including the anticipated opening of our Chittenango branch in Fall 2026.
Growing our impact together
This expansion represents an exciting new chapter for GPO and the communities we serve. More importantly, it represents an opportunity to continue building meaningful relationships and helping more people experience what it means to bank with a credit union focused on community, service, and commitment to excellence.
As we continue growing, we’re excited to welcome even more individuals, families, and businesses to GPO.
