GPO Celebrates National Credit Union Youth Month

“Save away for a rainy day!” is this year’s theme for National Credit Union Youth Month. Starting today, set your child up for success by teaching good financial habits early. Spending is easy; but learning to save is crucial for their financial future.

What is National Credit Union Youth Month?

National Credit Union Youth Month is a month-long celebration dedicated to promoting financial literacy and encouraging young people to save money. It’s a time when credit unions across the country organize special events, educational activities, and promotions to help kids and teens learn about money management and develop good financial habits. It’s a fun and interactive way for young savers to learn about saving, budgeting, and making wise financial decisions.

What Does GPO Offer for Youth AND Saving?

GPO offers a Kids’ Cash Savings account, for parents to help their children learn successful financial habits from a young age.

There are many benefits that come with the account itself like the deposits into the account will earn high dividends. Once the account is open, it establishes your young one’s membership with GPO, so they can continue to enjoy the perks of banking with GPO as they age. The account is totally free – there are no monthly or annual service or maintenance fees. Also, there are no minimum balance requirements, deposit as little or as much as you choose and whenever you want.

Some more perks that come with a GPO Kids’ Cash Savings account is in-person balance round ups – where the account balance is rounded up to the next dollar each quarter. Creation of an account grants access to a variety of fun educational activities - an exclusive spot for Kids' Cash members to learn about financial education through online videos, fun quizzes, a savings tracker and more!

Starting a Kids’ Cash Savings account is important because it teaches children the value of money and helps them develop good saving habits from an early age. It’s a great way for kids to learn about setting goals, making choices about spending and saving, and understanding the concept of interest. By having a savings account, kids can see their money grow over time and feel a sense of accomplishment. It also provides a safe place for them to keep their money and learn money management. Plus, it’s never too early to start saving for future goals and dreams!

Not only does GPO offer this account to help your youth with saving but ALSO financial literacy educational services. Our Community & Business Development Coordinator visits classrooms in all counties that we serve to educate them on money management, saving, banking as a whole, and so much more!

What is GPO Doing to Celebrate?

To celebrate, every Kids’ Cash member will be entered to win a FUN summer gift basket valued at $200, two tickets to Water Safari and a $100 cash deposit into their GPO account! Members who sign up for a Kids’ Cash Savings account during April will earn a double entry into the drawing.

*The contest ends April 30th and the winner will be announced on May first!

On top of that we are visiting classrooms and attending events where we can interact with our communities’ youth and educate them about finances, which is something we have implemented year-round, but focus on youth in April!

You can always visit us at the branch that is most convenient for you to talk about Kids’ Cash Savings accounts and to of course set one up!
